I wanted to repost this because it includes the story of the Machete - it’s been awhile, so it might be a fresh read to some folks - enjoy!
Growing up with militant parents was quite interesting to say the least. Before joining the ‘nation’ my mom was a afro pick, fist up, huge afro card carrying Black Panther, Dad was a….hustler, lol Joining forces they became radical militant muslims and thus I grew up in a household that was all about the revolution. At any point and time my home was full of muslims and other outside the mainstream individuals and while the smooth sounds of miles davis filled the air, they ate smoked and drank coffee and talked about the state of the world till the wee hours of the morning.
Apparently the 70’s were just as turbulant as the 60’s and folks were fed up. We were living in Atlanta off of Cacase Rd. and though from a child’s eye, I didn’t see anything wrong - apparently there was. I don’t remember the exact conversation but I do remember I was around 7 1/2 or 8 at the time. My mom told me that my dad had decided that it was time for us to leave America and just go somewhere else to live. She wasn’t coming right away, but she would join us. We were selling everything we owned and just up and leaving..the comforts of home. I guess my Dad spun a globe or something, a la Coming to America, because our destination…..Central America! Even at that young age, I was like cool we getting on a plane go on down there, we got some kinda nice house and that’s just where we gonna live…….

Let’s not even begin the chitter chatter and get right to the matter at hand..I got a good memory for you today. Since we’ve been on this old school movie thing at my house, let me bring out a classic for yah. You’ll have to excuse the dampness of the entry - I’ve been salivating as I put this one together. So get out your Kung Fu gear and let’s set it off! ENJOY
THE LAST DRAGON
Berry Gordy’s The Last Dragon is a 1985 martial arts parody film, featuring a predominantly Black cast, produced by then-Motown Records CEO Berry Gordy and directed by Michael Schultz. Something of a commercial and critical disappointment upon its original release (the film’s Norman Whitfield-produced theme song was nominated for Worst "Original" song at the 1985 Golden Raspberry Awards), The Last Dragon is today considered something of a cult classic. The film stars Taimak, Vanity, Julius J. Carry, III, Christopher Murney, and Faith Prince. The movie was released by TriStar Picturesto theatres on March 22, 1985.
The plot, set in New York City, of the film revolves around a black teenage martial arts student named Leroy Green, who is often referred to as "Bruce Leroy" (although he never actually calls himself that). Leroy dreams of being a great martial artist like his idol, Bruce Lee. Leroy is on a quest to attain the highest level of martial arts accomplishment, called "The Glow". As its name suggests, it is a mystical energy that can be tapped into by a martial arts master. When a person’s hands glow, they are one of the best fighters in the world. When their entire body glows, they are the single best fighter there is. Along the way to find "The Glow", however, Leroy must confront villains such as a crooked arcade mogul (Murney) and the evil Sho’nuff, the Shogun of Harlem. Also, protect his younger brother Richie (Leo O’Brien) and his girlfriend, VJ Laura Charles (Vanity).
This was the first acting role for Taimak, a then-20-year-old Black/Italian black belt who learned to act on the set of this picture.
Featured in this film is a DeBarge song, "Rhythm of the Night", written by Diane Warren. The song reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Billboard R&B charts.
Leroy and Richie’s younger sister Sophie was portrayed by Cosby Show actor Keshia Knight Pulliam.
Let’s take it back to SHONUFF!
Remember this song? You knew it was wack as hell but you bopped to it anyway.
And we certainly can’t even go there without a few shots of our hero Bruce Leroy - - Now! Check Him Out On His Website. Ladies (and Hell some fellas too) get out a hanky, you will need to wipe your mouth!

** You are getting a double Throwback Thursday Post today because I am quite amped about what I just found out and wanted to share!**
I haven’t watched a daytime soap since mini-me was an infant. I got back involved because I was on bed rest. When she was born, I’m embarrassed to say that the theme song from Young and the Restless was like a lullaby for her, lol Prior to that I hadn’t watched soaps since High School. You know Luke and Laura etc. etc. Well one of my favorites back then was All My Children and the Jessie and Angie and Tad and Jenny storyline. I watched it religiously…at school, lol in the theatre room, lol Folks cut school a lot to watch it as well. Ya’ll know we all fell out when Jessie died, and we followed Angie and Frankie over to the short lived ‘The City’
Anyhoo - I read on Yahoo that after 20 years (which is about right) they are bringing Jessie and Angie back! The very first black soap super couple. For some strange reason I am excited. I need to do some reading and go back a couple of months to catch up on the story lines but I’ll be taping this. I think because it brings back so many memories. They are due back tomorrow. Here is the promo
Now if they would just bring back Generations - I’d be set, lol lol Ya’ll remember Generations? The first attempt at a ‘Black" Soap Opera. While I"m in the soap opera nostalgia mood here is a famous clip from Generations for you to enjoy:
Ohhh Aunt Viv, lol lol

I was blessed to have an opportunity to get gussied up quite a bit during my last couple years of High School. I went to two proms as a Jr. and was a Sub-Debutante. My Senior year, I went to my prom and came out as a Debutante. I also was queen of my homeroom a couple of times and was elected Miss R.O.T.C. Now that holds a special place in my heart because I wasn’t IN R.O.T.C. to have that many guys decide that you should be their queen means alot. I held the highest rank and had a white suit and saber and all that good stuff. Lots of fun! Lots!

I went back to see what was happening two years ago on this date and this certainly surprised me. I don’t go back a year cause ya’ll know I was in wedding mode and I’ll talk about all that closer to my actual anniversary date. So without further waiting - here is what it was in 2006 on this date.
Channeling Maury Povich
Ok, so I said that I had an interesting postscript to the My Daddy Entry. You know it wouldn’t (1) be life or (2) be blog worthy or (3) be the life of Pam, if the story didn’t have something dramatic attached to it…..

I’s A Student!
Blog Musical Mood: Roni - Bobby Brown
Yes People! I followed thru. I mustered up the courage to step out and at 39 1/2 I’m back in school. I’m excited. I’ve needed a brain boost and I’m sure I’ll get it. I start January 17th with my first class being Psych - Self Assessment. Now that should send me over the edge, lol. I can just turn in my blog, lol. I’ll be getting my B.A. in two years in Organizational Management with a concentration in Primary Education. I would like to teach but the Organizational Management degree from an unorganized person sounds so intriguing, lol. Who knows might go into H.R. or something. It’s never to late and I’ll deal with the money as it comes up.
Speaking of Psych - Self Assessment. I am wondering why my love affair with food has been so strong lately. It’s not that I’m necessarily overeating (ok maybe I am a little bit) but I am really turing to food and I need to figure out why and quickly. I honestly think that I have a low continous drip mainlined in my body of…..depression. I don’t think it’s traditional depression but it’s boredom with life depression. When nothing is moving in my life - food gives me excitement. I have to figure out how to expel these feelings instead of inhaling them. I have GOT to get off my ass and get my body moving! I don’t know why it’s so hard this time. I have got to do it! I’ll be having conversations with myself in my written journal to get that in gear. Cause food modification no longer really works - I am going to have to get the ole heartrate up.
I did some ’stats’ at the club, because in having a conversation it was asked am I aggressive? Do I sit back in the corner and wait to be approached. Hmmm -
Been visiting the club for a little over a month:
- 6020 folks have passed my table
- I’ve sent cocktail Napkins or a drink to 46 men
- Only 4 responded to me being the aggressor
- I’ve been on 2 dates
Hmmmm - maybe I should change my placecard to "Lickemwell", say I’m bi-sexual, and show some ass…..what ya’ll think? I think I’ll just quietly leave, lol. I got other stuff on my plate now and that’s a good thing.
