I’mma need you to lay off my momma

Let me preface this by saying that ya’ll know I don’t come on like this in the evening, but I need to change up the programming so that I can address something.

Ya’ll know that  a lot of folks know my mom and know who she is and so when folks see things pertaining to her, they sometimes shoot me a note.  Well recently, someone posted a slew of her old talk show footage they had been keeping (blank stare) on You Tube and as a offshoot of that - she had had a small resurgence of attention by yet another generation or a revisit from those who were old enough to for it to be relevant back in the day.

My mom has basically been in semi-retirement, choosing to focus her attention on her own town. She has not been bothering anyone.  All the years of being cussed out by my fellow kneegrow bretheren has been quite trying and she just wanted to chill.

Well it was nice to see that there are folks still stuck on stupid and still going on and on about her most infamous statement pertaining to what to do to a woman who has gotten completely out of control a la Airplane.  A firm smack in the mouth. If there was EVER a utterance of a sentence that could be taken back - that would be it.  She took it out the book, she revised her thinking (with a few words from me in the mix) and moved on. Well folks can’t seem to move on - as ignorant as some of us act on the daily, especially now - I don’t condone it - but I understand to paraphrase Chris Rock.

Anyhoo - I sighed when I saw the title on a public board over on Blackvoices  SMACK SHAHRAZAD ALI PLEASE I already developed a migrane.  I am no longer in the habit of fighting hard on behalf of my mom because it’s a mute point, but sometimes folks piss me off and I have to respond.  This thread pissed me off, because they are accusing her of doing something illegal with their damn credit cards. Which is NOT TRUE!  Let me repeat it’s NOT TRUE!  Then they put her picture up and make fun of her as a woman. Say all you want about what she writes, she’s used to it and you are entitled to your opinion - but don’t take it personal - what yo momma look like?  Mine is beautiful to be in her 60’s skin almost see through, not a wrinkle in site, so if you can’t present your opinion about the body of work without taking it to the body of the woman - then keep it to yourself.

I don’t even hang out over there - forget it’s there most times, but I had to register and go through all this to post over there about this website thing:

Peace!

A friend of mine sent me this link and I wanted to pop through for a minute and respond to the Allegations against my mom…not the opinions about what you might think about her book, I won’t even go there about the unkind words about whether she is alive or not. She’s alive and well and was just on WAOK here in Atlanta this afternoon.  She was fine, doing some speaking engagements and enjoying her Grandkids and being an Activist in Philadelphia - but the posting of the you tube videos has brought her some business. Thanks (insert smirk here).

Her website is down and has been down for awhile. She, unfortunately was dealing with a web designer who reniged on his job concerning being her web master and she got a bad virus and it is currently not working and the web designer has left no one to speak the language.  We are working on it daily. She was quite distraught to know people were trying to contact and order from her and were being lost in space.

LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR!  She has NOT been involved in any phishing scam, out of all her intelligence - she has been slow to even get involved in the internet - so please believe she is NOT trying to get anyone’s credit card number to do anything illegal or distructive.  IF you have tried to order something from her - she never got it!

She also has not been invovled in any IRS or Molestation charges or any of the other nonsense that has been talked about on this board.  She lives in Philadelphia, she is member of several civil groups, she campaigns for our children in that very bad school system up there and she sometimes get on the radio and what not.

Of course being the cynics - you don’t have to believe me or anything like that.  That’s on you. I don’t hang out over here, but my friend was upset at the way you were talking about my momma.  I’ve seen it all before so it no longer effects me like that.  I know who she is and I also know that most of what she said 20 years ago is not only still relevant but very much on point for the condition of the interpersonal relationships between black men and women.  Might not like the package it came in, because we know we sensitive - but a lot of what she said holds much water in 2008.

I just really wanted to address the accusations that she was trying to scam or do something foul to someone.

Pam

I have posted a couple of blogs about her in the recent history:  I’LL ALWAYS LOVE MY MOMMA  and posted some pictures - memom08

I was there during it all and I was amazed and still am amazed at the way we get stuck and can’t wrap our minds around anything else, but what we are told to wrap our minds around. Do I agree with everything she said?  Nope, but do I have enough of a mindspace to check it out?  Yes.

So I just wanted to come on here and say if I’m not talking bout yo momma - please stop talking disparagingly against mine. If you don’t agree with what she had/has to say then FINE, that’s your right - but you might wanna to do it a bit more intelligently.

You handled this situation so very well with grace, class and common sense. I know your mom is a beautiful person because of who you are. It is a shame that some people hold on to past things, disagreements etc. just to have a LIFE. That is all that they are doing Pam, just holding on to old stuff so that they can have a life today. You and your mom keep moving forward strutting all the way.

Hey Pam, I’m reading your mother’s book for the almost the third time I think. I got hip to her when Star from Star and Buc wild morning show was reading exerpts from “Blackman’s guide…” and I heard her on the show a few times. I think your mother was right then and the book still applies now. Tell her to keep written, that book was so deep that Im tryin to put other black men on this so maybe we can salvage this thing called the Black community. Infact he reference her today on his show when the subject of the depletion of the great negro league due to the integration of Jackie Robinson to the major. One thing people don’t like to hear and that is the truth! Email me let’s get this thing poppin.

I remember the first time i saw Shahrazad Ali i was flipping through tv channels, And i stoped on The Montell Williams show. And i don’t remember the actual topic, But it was about slavery, I saw Shahrazad sitting there with a african hat on and i decided to turn the tv volume up to hear what she was saying. I agreed with everything she said all her points she made, Then i got on the phone and started calling family and friends to watch her. I saw a video on youtube of Shahrazad stating that she doesn’t discuss her personal life and why she don’t. Older people in my parents and grand parents generation all think they know who Shahrazad is, Most of them say that Shahrazad Ali is one of Muhammad Ali ex wives, Then there are those who think Shahrazad is Elijah Muhammads daughter. The last time i heard Shahrazad Ali on the radio was back in 2004, she was sorta upset with Minister Farakahn, I hope Shahrazad will mend fences with Farakahn because he really seems to be still in our corner meaning black men and women here in america.
