I used to be afraid of that possibility, but the more I think about it the more I don't think it's as bad an idea as it originally seemed. I want to add that I agree with OpinionatedDiva. All the support in the world is not going to matter if that man doesn't want to elevate himself, mentally or otherwise. So many men pay lip service to the idea, but won't act on it even in any little way. Then they wonder why we won't stick around. If you want to be a loser, do it on your own time, not mine. I think I'm ruined for marriage. Fending for myself alone for so many years has made me too independent, too self-sufficient, and less trusting; especially of men. After everything I've seen and experienced, I don't think I can trust a man enough to submit myself to him the way a wife is supposed to. I just had to take a critical look at myself and admit the ugly, unpolitically correct truth. I just don't think I have it in me to trust at that level. If I did at one time, I don't now. Then there's the fact that given my age and health issues, having children is out of the question. So, what's the point of marriage for me now, anyway? I didn't even know about the special. I'm going to google it later and see what the deal is. Overall I gotta say though, that getting the Black man from the point of being at the bottom of the totem pole (whether he is literally there or mentally there) has to be an effort led by our men...not us women. We can support the hell out of our men, but ultimately they have to want it just as much as we do. Very very interesting. I didn’t even know about the special.
