Washing Hair Friday

pamwig 11-07 Saturday

PamTree11-07 NOW!

LOL I have to start off laughing at the entry.  It’s all comical to me on some level.  As you can see over the weekend, I went through a couple of changes.  Actually over the course of my blogging history, I’ve gone through enough hairstyles to qualify as the "Mary J" of the blog world.  Never before have I been able to tap into that which is Gemini than through my ever changing hair.  It allows me to channel so many sides of who I am.

I didn’t start out being this fascinated with hair.  I wasn’t allowed to do anything to mine until I was well out of HS.  I wore my hair in it’s natural curly state all through HS, with an occasional blow dryer blow out for special events.  I actually didn’t even start wearing my hair loose until I was a Sr. in HS. So I never gave my hair much thought. I liked to keep it combed and neat but that’s about it.

I think it was maybe 3-4 years ago, that I became aware that I could accessorize my head.  I’ve been doing it ever since.  I’ve always liked braided hairstyles. I’ve had pretty much everyone that’s out there from the basket weave to twists.  I’ve had a couple of colors even having my blonde moment which pretty much almost drove my mom crazy.  When sistas started wearing weaves.  I came out strong against it - well obviously I feel a bit hypocritical about that now.  I started with a colored track here or there glued in to beef up my own head.  I started getting my braids half done so that you could see some hair and then eventually moved to glue in’s to add weight and substance to my own hair.  I had a quick weave and that looked so much like a possum had died on my head, I took it out after about 72 hours, lol  I have to find that picture.  Wigs have always been my friend, you can flop one on and keep it moving.  I have never had a sew in because I don’t like that fake ass looking part on top of my head.  If I were to get one - I’d be leaving my own hair out in the front so that I could blend.  Currently, tree braids are my thang and I am feeling em!

Though I have crossed over and have a whole rubber maid bucket, full of hair - I still treat it like it’s an accessory.  This is NOT my hair, I don’t fool myself into thinking it and I don’t carry myself like it is. I still have looks I don’t like.  I still will shake my head if a sista is rocking something quite unbelievable.  I will speak on those that have worn weave/braids to the point their hairline starts at their ears.  PROTECT YOUR EDGES!

But Lord, I do enjoy me some hair!  I am trying to not go so drastic from one style to the next and kinda keep it in the same family, lol  I still get a genuine chuckle when I come to work and the toubob are amazed at how my hair just comes  and goes every two weeks, lol.  I love those conversations, lol  I also have married a man who enjoys seeing a well put together coif.  He was up early to get my ass to the braid salon on Sunday morning, lol lol  He has no problem with my various looks and already I see the benefit of it in a relationship.

So I have been working like I said on upgrading me and my look and how I’m just presenting my swagger.  I think I’m moving along in the right direction.  I want to enter into these mid-forty years perserving my sexy and laying down foundations to make sure this black don’t crack.  I’m just starting to live my life to the fullest for the second time and I don’t wanna do it no less than 90% at my full potential. I went many a year putting my physical appearance on the back burner. Well JEROME HAND ME A MIRROR!

I just took my first salon box braids out this weekend (I usually braid my own hair). Gurl, I lost ten pounds! I had no idea how much braid hair was in my head until I took out the fourth grocery bag of ‘kanekalon’!

Anyway, Ive never colored or had a weave, but Ive gone back and forth between all types of natural styles: afro, dreds, braids and now I have a wild natural with a scarf pulled back on the front, LOL!

You look good! Forty is the new zero!!!
