I got nothing but love
I have taken the time to speak about the loves of my life. You all are quite familiar with two of them: my husband and Michael Jackson. Well there actually is the ’secret love’. That love that you want to give up but can’t. That love that brings you equal amounts of joy and pain and I want to reveal that love to you today - to complete my trifecta of emotion…….
That ’secret love’ is…….
FOOD!
Oh my God, how I love thee, through thick and thin, through sickness and in health, through richer or poorer! How could something so good basically take you out the game in a heartbeat.
It’s around all damn day. From the time you get up till the time you go to bed. There is just such a love affair you can have with food. Most of my fondest memories revolve around some meal. I’m sure alot of our memories revolve around the family meal. How many great stories do we all have around the Thanksgiving and Christmas table? How excited to do you get about those holidays and the food it brings? Who is not right now, starting to talk with their mom/aunt/cousins about who bringing what and how you can’t wait to taste……..
I learned how to cook early. I learned how to eat earlier, lol Sometimes I wish I would have taken a liking of sweets, but instead I have taken a liking to a black persons devil incarnate….CARBS!! Bread, Macaroni, Potatoes, I feel like I could just roll around in that stuff, lol
I began an unhealthy relationship with food when I moved to NYC. I had never been out on my own, my husband was gone all the time, I didn’t know anyone and at the time wasn’t working — so going into the city and testing out restaurants etc. became my thang.
Later on after he was killed, there was food; warm inviting telling me with each biteful that it was gonna be okay.
However the biggest event and worse relationship with food has been….workplace eating. I sit most of the day on my ass, yet it is customary to go out as a fucking herd of beast and try to consume as much food as possible in the 60 minute alottment. I see so many of us moving about, standing in line, getting these huge quantities of food, to go and sit back down for the rest of the day! I am ashamed of the way ‘we’ eat at lunch. I look at the toubob in line in front of me get a cup of soup and 1/2 a grilled cheese sandwich! I look at the grocery bags in the fridge belonging to us and the small round tub belonging to them.
BUT this ain’t about getting depressed! This is just about how much I love that mothafucka we call food. Eating less of it is killing me, but eating it is killing me too - so I gotta do what I gotta do.
I just want to take a moment and give a shout out to:
Oxtails, Mcdonald Fries, Cheesesteaks, Pretzels and Mustard, Pastrami Sandwiches, Cornbeef on Rye w/russian dressing & coleslaw, Two wings from Churches, a 10 piece honey bbq all flats, Chili Cheese Dogs, Macaroni and Cheese, Stuffing, Cranberry sauce, Lamb Chops, Homemade fried chicken, Chicken Pot Pie, Steak and Eggs, French Toast, Cheese, spinach and tomato omelet, Chocolate Shakes, Sara Lee Pound Cake, Frosted Flakes in ice cold milk, muscadines, krispy kreme donuts, chocolate syrup, Big Mac’s, Whoppers, Tater Tots, Wavy Lays, grilled cheese sandwiches, gravy, bbq sauce, fried chicken gizzards, beef tongue, beef tripe on mushy white bread, Oscar Mayer fried Bologna sandwiches, chicken nuggets, fried okra, corn on the cob, hot buttered popcorn, spaghetti, chicken alfredo, chicken marsala, hell chicken anything!
Wiping my tears of joy…..I LOVE YA”LL!!
So there you have it. Food, Mike and My husband; my loves-my friends-my dream desires…I think I’ll go and crawl in the corner now, lol
