For me and my DJ

Having lived in NYC from the late 80’s till the mid 90’s; I was privvy to alot that was the formulation of Hip Hop as we know it today.  I don’t profess myself to be a part of the culture but I am an affectionate towards the genre.  So when VH-1 came out with the whole Hip Hop Honors thing - I was vexed.  Well last evening was the 4th Annual Hip Hop Honors - honoring A Tribe Called Quest, Snoop Dogg, Wild Style the Movie, Missy Elliott and New Jack Swing.

Let the games begin:

First and foremost!  T-pain is officially banned from my airwaves! DAYUM is he wack.  I wish they had of gotten Keith Sweat or even dug up Roger Troutman instead of his ass.  How gimmicky can you freaking get?!  He had that dumb smile on his face his whole performance - you know the one that says, damn I sound busted as hell.  Only in America can someone with that level of non-singing voice; actually make it in the industry!

Missy seems to have fallen off the proverbial diet train; but her hair was, as always tight.

Does Keisha Cole get her feet bound before she performs? What is up with the inability to walk, dance or balance in her shoes?

LL Cool J is starting to perturb me with his style of dress. It’s like this Biker Hip Hop look - however, it ususally is all made up by the abundance of FINENESS!!

Pepa has come down with a fatal case of ‘ToniBraxtonitis”.  Why get this old and get nasty?  That clip of her singing Whatta Man in the man’s crotch was looking desperate.

Ne-Yo NOOOOOOOOOO!

Jalil Jalil from Whodini - still made my heart skip a baby beat.  All that Chocolate Goodness.  The fact that my sister fucked both of them - turns that into a nightmare, but that’s another post.

Kool Mo Dee been to Mickey D’s.

I never knew that Teddy Riley produced the Show, with Dougie Fresh and Slick Rick.  He was looking good and amazingly actually sounding better - cause ya’ll know he couldn’t sing.  I found it interesting that out of all the groups attributed to the New Jack Swing - only Chauncy from Blackstreet incarnation one showed up.  Teddy isolated himself with that ego.  He still a cutie though.

Did NY have a blackout caused by Fab Five Freddy Big Ass Head?!  DAYUM!!!

Phife is fighting diabetes; for those who were wondering if he is sick.

When you can Wop down into a split - you got my vote!

I always get proud when they break out the Originators like Caz etc. because it brings to light that once again Black People have made an impact on the history of this planet as we know it.  These brothers didn’t make any money, alot of them are not doing well - but they are finally getting the homage they deserve.

I could probably say a whole lot more - but all in all it was a good show. It wasn’t the best one, but it was good. I can’t even begin to tell you who they should honor next year - just keep honoring em.

The funniest part - This old head right here is SUFFERING cause I stayed up to watch these damn awards. Man the rabbit getting old - the rabbit getting old, lol lol

Here are a couple of performances from last night AND my favorite performance out of all four shows:

Busta and a Tribe Called Quest (Q-tip) was hot in that Ralph Lauren Ensemble.

Whodini Getting Honored

BIG DADDY KANE! Hands Down My absolute Favorite Tribute!

I enjoyed the Hip Honor’s last night. I was all up on front of the tv spitting rhymes. Err. Well trying to remember them. LL and those guys from Whodini are aging well. Still got my crush on them. *whew* Teddy Riley Yep Yep is getting old and I was wondering why they didn’t have my Keith Sweat performing. He should have been singing his own songs. And they should have had Heavy D performing.

It was sweet of VH1 to let Spinderella emcee a little bit in between the commercials although it looks like she was totally left out of the Salt n Pepa reality show. Shazammmm. And the clips from Irv Gotti’s show make the show look interesting. He seems annoying, but I have to give it to him. He lives a colorful life.

Loved the tribute to Missy but Nelly Furtado messed up the flow for me. Took me awhile to figure out that was Tweet with all that hair in her face. Surprise she was able to see where she was walking. I liked how the performers where people Missy produced. The same should have been done with New Jack Swing/Teddy Riley. They couldn’t get Aaron Hall and his brother; how about Heavy D. I would have took Bobby Brown over Keyshia Cole and Neyo. Messing up “Remember The Time”, hell. Keyshia is not a dancer so she shouldn’t do it. And Teddy looks better with more weight. LL Cool J will ALWAYS be fine, sexy, and yummy looking. I’ve never heard of the movie “Wild Style” but I enjoyed the tribute performance. Liked how KRS-One threw in the Jena 6 line. I loved everything about Whodini’s tribute especially the end when they took it back to the old school dances…the wop, the reebox, the snake, etc. I enjoyed Snoop’s tribute before Snoop came out. Probably b/c the other performers did his classics.
